How do I check the status of my domain using dig command?

If you want to check domain status, using dig method is one of the options. Here are the steps you can follow to run the dig command based on your operating system.

Mac Operating systems

If you're using a Mac operating system, the following are the guidelines.

1. From your Launchpad > Search for Terminal in the search bar and click to open it.

2. After opening the terminal, here you will input "dig @8.8.8.8 https://xyz.myshoplazza.com" to check the status of your domain.

Note

The dig format should be accurate with spaces in between. e.g dig{space}@8.8.8.8{space} https://xyz.myshoplazza.com/

Windows operating systems

To use dig on a Windows system, the BIND  software must be installed. The official website offers a Windows Dig command installation file for download. You can also use Google DNS resolution   to check the domain status.

What does domain status mean?

The domain status can have different meanings depending on the domain registry, but some common statuses are:

  • NXDOMAIN: Non-existent Domain - the domain name does not exist.
  • NOERROR: No Error - the DNS query was successful and there were no errors.
