When managing products in bulk, using spreadsheets to import or update data can save time. However, errors may occur during the upload process if the file does not meet Shoplazza’s formatting and data requirements. This article explains how to troubleshoot common spreadsheet import failures using both Shoplazza’s template and Shopify export files.
Reviewing and resolving import errors
After uploading your spreadsheet file in the Products Import section, a summary window will appear showing how many rows were successfully imported and how many failed.
1. Download the failure report: If any rows fail, click Download failed list with reasons in the summary popup to download the error log.
2. Open the error file and locate the message column: In the downloaded spreadsheet, scroll to the last column labeled Error message. Each failed row will include a specific reason for the error. This column gives you clear guidance on what needs to be fixed.
3. Re-upload the corrected file: Once errors are fixed, save your updated XLSX file and re-upload it under Products > Import.
Importing products using a Shopify export
If you're switching from Shopify or working with Shopify-exported product data, Shoplazza offers a dedicated Import from Shopify option designed for this use case.
1. Use the correct import option: Go to Shoplazza admin > Products, then click Import from Shopify.
- This method is compatible with CSV files exported directly from your Shopify admin.
- Do not convert the file to XLSX or change any headers.
Note
If you're using a Shopify CSV file, do not upload it through the regular Import button. Shopify uses its own field names, which do not match Shoplazza’s import template. Even if you convert the file to XLSX, the headers remain incompatible, which will trigger errors. Always use the Import from Shopify option for these files to ensure a successful upload.
2. Error messages you might see: These appear when a Shopify CSV file is uploaded using the incorrect import method or altered in a way that breaks compatibility.
- “System error caused the import to stop. Please check your file and try again.”
- “Invalid file header. Check and try again.”
3. Handling edited Shopify files: If you edited the CSV in Excel or another spreadsheet tool, it may contain hidden formatting that prevents a successful import.
- Re-export the file from Shopify and upload the clean version using Import from Shopify.
- If needed, clean the formatting using ConvertCSV Viewer & Editor before re-uploading.
