1.What is Google Analytics?

  • Google Analytics (GA) is a web traffic measurement service provided by Google. Google Analytics is now the most widely used web analytics service on the Internet.
  • GA can provide users with rich content and various forms of online reports. Users have a 360 view of visitor trends and their background information.

 

2.Google Analytics versions

There are two versions of GA . The previous version is "Universal Analytics," and the new version is "Google Analytics 4" (GA4). The latest version of Google Analytics was released on October 14, 2020. 3.How does GA embed tags on the sites and monitor site data and users?

To create an account in GA, add the auto-generated JavaScript monitoring code from GA (“global detection code”) and add it to every page of your website that you want to monitor so that GA can collect comprehensive data from your website.

 

4.Where do I create a Google Analytics account?

  • Click "Admin" in the lower-left corner of GA’s main interface to view the GA account structure.
  • The account hierarchy of Universal Analytics is: "GA Account" > "Property" > "View."

  • The account hierarchy of GA4 is: "GA Account" > "Property" > "Data stream" (New version removes data view and uses data flow)

  • Organization (user's Google account, for instance, your Gmail is a Google account)

Both products and users are integrated into the organization. An organization represents a company where you can access the company's various product accounts (such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager for Tracking code, Google Optimize accounts) and manage product users, permissions, and cross-product integration.

  • Account

To use Google Analytics, users need to have an account on the platform. An organization can have one or more Google Analytics accounts.

Users need to have at least one Google Analytics account to access Google Analytics and determine which property to track. It is entirely up to the user to manage the relationship between the account and the properties. You can adopt a one-to-one relationship between one account and one property, or you can adopt a one-to-many relationship between one account and multiple properties. Users can sign up for more than one Google Analytics account.

  • Property

Property represents a business’s web and app data. An account can contain one or more properties.

In your Google Analytics account, you can add multiple properties from which to collect data. When a user adds a property to the account, Google Analytics will generate a tracking code that you can use to collect data from that property. The trace code contains a unique ID that identifies the data from the property for easy identification by the user in the report. In addition, Google Analytics creates an unfiltered view of the data for each property that the user adds.

  • View

Report entry. The defined view allows you to view data in a property. You can grant access to users so that they can view various reports. A property contains one or more views.

For example, in a property, you might have the following view:

A view that includes all the data at www.example.com.

A view that includes only AdWords traffic, which was obtained at www.example.com.

A view that only includes the traffic received by a subdomain, such as www.sales.example.com.

 

6.What does the GA use to collect data from the website?

  • View tracking code

To view in previous version: Property > Tracking Info > Tracking code

To view in new version: Property > Data stream

  • Add the code to every page on your website.
