Food & Beverage Policy

Shoplazza places a high priority on consumer health and safety and you are required to follow our policy when listing permitted food related items by merchants.
The following and similar food items are prohibited.

  • Unpasteurized dairy products (except cheese that follows government regulations)
  • Unpasteurized fruit or vegetable juices
  • Wild mushrooms (except morel mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms)
  • Ackee fruit or seeds
  • Expired foods
  • Government-assisted food supplies
  • Fresh food
  • Frozen foods 
  • Food without labels 

The following and similar beverages are prohibited.

  • Unlabeled beverages
  • Expired beverages

When listing permitted food items, merchants must comply.

  • Ensure that food items are properly packaged and safely stored
  • Clearly indicate the expiration date in the item description
  • Describe how perishable items are delivered and ensure delivery to buyers before they expire
  • Upload a clear photo of the food label. (See below for detailed food labeling requirements) 

When listing permitted beverages, merchants must comply.

  • Ensure that beverage items are properly packaged and safely stored
  • Clearly indicate the expiration date in the item description
  • Describe how perishable items are shipped and ensure delivery to buyers before they expire
  • Upload a clear photo of the beverage label. Food labels are required for beverages, etc.

China (CN) Laws and regulations for importing food products

According to China‘s  import and export food safety management measures  , export food manufacturers should ensure the exported food complies with.

United States (US) Laws and regulations for Food

Under provisions of the U.S. Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act  , importers of food products are responsible for ensuring that the products are safe, sanitary. Importers can import foods into the United States without prior sanction by FDA, as long as they have prior notice of incoming shipments provided to FDA, and comply with US food labeling requirements. If your violate federal law, the food may be inadmissible for import.
Imported food products are subject to FDA inspection when offered for import at U.S. ports of entry. FDA may detain shipments of products offered for import if the shipments are found not to comply with U.S. requirements. 
Food labeling requirements
Your food product must be labeled with the following labeling elements. The required location of these elements is in parentheses, when applicable.

  • Common name of the food (Principal Display Panel)
  • Net quantity of contents (PDP)
  • Ingredient list (PDP or information panel)
  • Name & location of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor (PDP or information panel)
  • Nutrition Information

You must register as a Food Facility if you own or operate a facility that manufactures, processes, packs, or holds food for consumption in the US. Some products will require supplemental registrations (See Supplemental Registrations and Notifications  .
FSVP Information
Generally, foreign supplier verification is required for most importers, imported foods, and foreign suppliers. But there are some exemptions. Please note that not every importer is subject to FSVP and you can verify via  Am I subject to FSVP?  

United States (US) Laws and regulations for Beverages

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ensures that carbonated soft drinks are safe, sanitary, and honestly labeled. 
FDA has established Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs) for carbonated soft drinks, which describe the basic steps manufacturers and distributors must follow to make sure carbonated soft drinks are safe.

Note for phenylalanine

Diet carbonated soft drinks containing phenylalanine must also include the statement, “PHENYLKETONURICS: CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE,” for individuals who suffer from phenylketonuria, a genetic disorder in which the body can’t process that amino acid. If the phenylalanine level gets too high in these individuals, it can damage the brain.

Note for Benzene

For bottled water, FDA has adopted the US Environmental Protection Agency maximum contaminant level of 5 parts per billion (ppb) for drinking water, as a quality standard.

Canada (CA) Laws and regulations for Food & Beverage

Under the provisions of Food and Drugs Act  & Food and Drug Regulations  , importers of food products are responsible for complying with related requirements.  
No person shall label, package, treat, process, sell or advertise any food in a manner that is false, misleading or deceptive.

Europe (EU) Laws and regulations for food

Under the provisions of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011  ,importers of food products are responsible for complying with fair information practices and labeling requirements.  
Fair information practices

  • Not mislead the public, particularly as to the characteristics or ingredients of the food 
  • Information shall be accurate, clear and easy for the consumer to understand, and shall appear in a language easily understood by the consumers of the Member States where a food is marketed.
  • Not attributed to any food the property of preventing, treating or curing a human disease, nor refer to such properties

Labeling requirements

Nutrition labelling  

  • pre-packed foods need to include nutrition declaration. It must provide the energy value and the amounts of fat, saturates, carbohydrates, sugars, protein and salt of the food. 
  • All the information must be expressed per 100g or per 100ml. 

EU restricts certain food imports

  • The EU has imposed import conditions or suspended imports of certain foods from certain countries. Please see A table of foodstuffs   with current European Union (EU) import restrictions.

Europe (EU) Laws and regulations for Beverage

Directive 2009/54/EC   regulates the marketing and exploitation of natural mineral waters. Certain provisions of this Directive are also applicable to spring waters such as the microbiological requirements and labeling requirements.

UK (after Brexit) Laws and regulations for food products

Under the provisions of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011  , importers of food products are responsible for complying with fair information practices and labeling requirements.  
Fair information practices

  • Not mislead the public, particularly as to the characteristics or ingredients of the food; 
  • Information shall be accurate, clear and easy for the consumer to understand, and all food products must (as a minimum) be in English.
  • Not attributed to any food the property of preventing, treating or curing a human disease, nor refer to such properties.
