How to set up discount for first time purchase?

You can set up the coupon code for the first time purchase, and select Do not show this campaign on the event page and close the pop-up of the coupon code. Then, find the Customer notification > Membership registration email, select the email template to edit, and add the discount code in the email. Finally, you can add a banner to display the campaign.
